Rules for Room Use
"Academics first" policy is enforced at all times. If you are using the computer for non-academic purposes such as surfing the Web, playing games, or chatting, you will be asked to log out immediately so others can use the computers for academic purposes.
Absolutely no alcoholic beverages or tobacco products are allowed within the facility.
Food and beverages are now completely banned from the SMF, and also prohibited on any stations with computers on the first floor; food may be consumed on study tables on the first floor without computers, or in the outer lobby.
Sleeping in the labs, propping your feet up, or sitting on the furniture is prohibited. Please respect and care for lab furniture.
All computer workstations are for computer use and should not be used as study tables. Study tables are located on the first floor.
Please work quietly and keep noise to a minimum to avoid disturbing others.
You must use your own computer account number and can be logged in on only one workstation at a time.
Any attempt to bypass security, or to illegally copy or download proprietary software, may result in loss of privileges and will be reported to the Information Security Office.
You must log out of a workstation before leaving the facility. If you leave your workstation unattended or locked for more than 15 minutes, you will be logged out.
If you intend to use a CD or listen to music, you must use headphones. The SMF does not provide CDs or headphones. Music must be kept to a minimum so as not to disturb others.
Wheelchair users have priority of the three "tall" workstations; others may use these stations, but if a wheelchair user needs it, you will be asked to give up the station.
Fire code policies allow students to work in groups of no more than two per workstation. If more students are assembled at one station, you will be asked to break up the group and use another computer. Group workstations can be found on L row in the SMF.
Do not move or remove lab materials from the facility, such as manuals, furniture, or equipment.
The distribution of flyers and/or surveys is strictly prohibited.
The use of cameras is prohibited in all ITS facilities unless prior approval has been obtained. For authorization, speak to the proctor at the service desk.
The use of cell phones and other telecommunication devices, such as speaker headphones, is restricted to the elevator and lobby area ONLY.
