Upgrading a UT EID
Only certain individuals are able to upgrade their UT EID. These individuals include students, faculty, staff, retirees, and university affiliates. If we do not have enough information on file to verify your identity or you do not have a clear relationship with the university, you will not be eligible to upgrade your UT EID.
Note: Most UT Austin students, faculty, and staff upgrade their UT EID as part of their orientation when they arrive at the university.
You will need an upgraded UT EID to:
- Register online for credit-by-exam tests.
- View your grades online.
- Access your W-2 online.
- Conduct other university business online.
You do NOT need an upgraded UT EID to register for classes.
How to Upgrade Your UT EID
To upgrade your UT EID, you must visit an upgrade location (see list below) in person and present a valid, current government-issued ID. You must also sign the EID Agreement which gives your UT EID legal signature authority.
You must be 18 or older to upgrade your UT EID. If you are under 18, you must have your parent or legal guardian present to countersign the EID Agreement. Both you and your parent or legal guardian must have your identity validated.
Note: Minors (defined as individuals under the age of 18 by the Texas Civil Practice and Remedies Code ยง 129.001
) lack capacity to enter into a contract. The EID Agreement is a legally-binding contract.
