Opting-In for Remote Wipe Capability
In order to use the built-in Exchange tools tools to initiate a remote wipe of a lost or stolen device via OWA, it is necessary to have an ActiveSync Device Policy applied to the device. (For more information on these policies, see Understanding Exchange ActiveSync Mailbox Policies.
To request that an ActiveSync device policy be applied to your device, please submit a request to the ITS Help Desk.
(Please note that if such a policy is applied after the loss or theft of a device, there is no guarantee that it will actually be applied, so any data on such a device would have to be regarded as having been compromised.)
iOS devices also have an alternative option via Apple's "Find my iPhone" feature, which also provides the ability to perform a remote wipe. For more information on this feature, please consult Apple's documentation.
