Removing Large Items Before Email Migration
From Thunderbird's Edit menu, select Find, then Search Messages. A Search Messages dialog box will open.
Change Search for messages in to your account (this will be the choice in the list just above your Inbox).
Change the first criterion drop-down list to Size (KB).
Change the second criterion drop-down list to is greater than.
In the field next to is greater than, enter 20000.
(optional) Click the columns icon at the right end of the header row for your search results, then click Size. This will add a Size column to your results.
The search results will populate at the bottom of the window. From here you can open, manage and delete messages and their attachments. Messages that you delete will remain in the search area, but will have Deleted Items listed as its folder.

Large Deleted Items Folders
The migration process can be slowed down if your mailbox's Deleted Items folder is large in size. If you don't need these messages, emptying your Deleted Items folder can speed up the migration. To do this, right-click (control-click in Mac OS X) your Deleted Items folder and select Empty Folder or Erase Deleted Items.
Note: If the above search instructions identified any large items in your mailbox, this action is necessary to prevent issues migrating your mailbox.
