Encrypting Files on a Smartphone MicroSD Card

Encrypting the data on the MicroSD memory card used with a Windows Mobile Smartphone will prevent other phones from being able to see the files on the memory card.

  1. From the Start menu, select Settings, then select the System tab.

  2. Check the box marked Encrypt files when placed on a storage card.

On some devices, encryption may come up as an option when you choose Settings.

Note: If the phone is reset to its factory defaults, it will no longer have access to the encrypted files on the MicroSD card. ITS recommends that you regularly back up your smartphone files to your computer or other device.

Please also note that encryption will apply to all storage cards placed in the smartphone. If you plan on using a memory card belonging to another individual, turn off the encryption option before inserting it.
