Austin Disk Services

Connecting to Austin Disk Services Through Secure FTP (SFTP) in Windows Using SSH Secure Shell (Bevoware)

You will need a secure file transfer protocol (SFTP) client for Windows to connect to disk services on austin.utexas.edu. ITS recommends the SSH Secure Shell 3.2.9 client included in BevoWare.

Note: If you are connecting from off campus, establish a VPN connection.

  1. Download and install SSH Secure Shell 3.2.9 at no cost from BevoWare.

  2. Select Start, then All Programs. Select SSH Secure Shell, then Secure File Transfer Client.

  3. Select Quick Connect.

  4. In the connection window, enter the following values:

    • Host name: "sftp.austin.utexas.edu"

    • User name: Your UT EID

    • Port number: "22"

    • Authentication Method: password

  5. Select Connect.

  6. If you are prompted to save a new host key to local database, answer Yes.

  7. Enter your UT EID password at the prompt.

Once you have opened your connection via SSH, you can go to your home directory under your EID. If you have been granted access on a departmental share, you can find the share within the DepartmentalDirectories folder. Note that if you try to access a directory that you do not have permission for, that directory will appear blank in SSH.
