Telephone Service (Legacy)

General Information: About VoIP

Rather than providing telephone service over a dedicated line like analog and digital desksets, Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phones provide service over the campus network using your local network connection.

Departments may choose to use VoIP for a number of reasons, including ease of moving phones among other benefits. For some locations on campus, VoIP phones are required. When the traditional telephone infrastructure reaches capacity, the only way to add additional phone service is by using VoIP over the campus network.
