Web Analytics: Urchin

How Urchin Creates Reports

Urchin produces reports from Web server log files. These logs contain data on what files were requested, when they were requested, the requester's IP address, and a few other pieces of data. A sample Web log file entry looks like: - - [20/Sep/2004:00:02:11 -0500] "GET /graphics/home/tower_top.gif HTTP/1.1" 304 - "" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; Win 9x 4.90)"

Urchin uses this data to produce aggregate reports available in the Urchin Web application in a user-friendly format.

Urchin does not use Data Warehousing, and its reporting capabilities are limited to Web server traffic.

Note: Urchin is only capable of producing reports from the start of a profile and onward. The ability to create reports from old server logs is not possible.
