How Urchin Creates Reports
Urchin produces reports from Web server log files. These logs contain data on what files were requested, when they were requested, the requester's IP address, and a few other pieces of data. A sample Web log file entry looks like:
24.175.44.218 - - [20/Sep/2004:00:02:11 -0500] "GET /graphics/home/tower_top.gif HTTP/1.1" 304 - "http://www.utexas.edu/" "Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows 98; Win 9x 4.90)"
Urchin uses this data to produce aggregate reports available in the Urchin Web application
in a user-friendly format.
Urchin does not use Data Warehousing, and its reporting capabilities are limited to Web server traffic.
Note: Urchin is only capable of producing reports from the start of a profile and onward. The ability to create reports from old server logs is not possible.
