What Is Streaming Media?
Streaming technology enables an audio or video file to be played while it is being downloaded from the Internet, instead of waiting for the entire file to download before it can be viewed or heard. Encoding is the compression of normal audio and video files. While not absolutely necessary, the encoding process both shrinks files and allows for more efficient streaming. The programming can then be sent across the Internet to multiple computers, without the need for dedicated circuits or equipment.
