As part of the Web Central Services Retirement project, the ITS website will be retired. Information about IT services will be replaced by two new sites, IT@UT and UT ServiceNow, and ITS departmental information will be migrated to a new location. All changes will be completed by 7/19/2016.

What is a UTS Account

A UTS (Unix Timesharing Service) account is a Unix shell user account on the Web Central server,, that provides access to the system via the command-line. UTS accounts and their affiliated Unix groups are used to assign permissions to the Web Central publishing space.

The ITS Web Team manages all new UTS accounts and any changes to existing accounts upon request from the account holder. The ability to create or manage UTS accounts was removed from the Technical Resource Account Control (TRAC) system.

The future UT Web hosting infrastructure will not use UTS accounts; instead, access and publishing permissions will be granted via UT EIDs for active university staff, faculty, or sponsored affiliates. After UT Web is in production, new sites will be published on UT Web rather than Web Central; existing Web Central sites and UTS accounts will continue to exist until Web Central is retired.
