The University of Texas at Austin

Windows Vista

Technology Adoption Program (TAP)

In October 2005, The University of Texas at Austin accepted Microsoft's invitation to take part in their Technology Adoption Program (TAP) for the rapid deployment of Windows Vista on our campus. Information Technology Services (ITS) has tested Windows Vista to determine:

  • How our standard campus computing environment works with Windows Vista.

  • How to deploy Windows Vista on campus.

  • How Windows Vista interacts with the various software programs used on campus.

During the summer and fall semesters in 2006, the Microsoft Windows Vista Test team worked with approximately 25 computers to test Windows Vista. Testing focused on:

  • Deploying Windows Vista

  • Migrating from XP to Windows Vista

  • Compatibility with applications commonly used on campus

  • Licensing using the new Key Management Server (KMS)

As of summer 2007, the Windows Vista Technology Adoption Program (TAP) is essentially complete. Over the next several months, ITS will be deploying 1000 Windows Vista desktops across campus.

Windows Vista is available at discounted rates to students, faculty, and staff, and can be purchased at the Campus Computer Store.
