Wireless and Wired Public Internet Access
Connecting to restricted.utexas.edu Wi-Fi: BlackBerry Pearl and Curve
This procedure connects the BlackBerry Pearl or Curve to the restricted.utexas.edu wireless network. These instructions have been tested on the BlackBerry Pearl 8120 (v4.3.0.115) and BlackBerry Curve 8320 (v4.2.2.171). Other similar devices may also work with this procedure but have not been tested.
Select Set up Wi-Fi from the main menu.
Choose Scan For Networks, then select restricted.utexas.edu.
The Wi-Fi Security page should display. Enter the following configuration:
- Security Type: EAP-TTLS
- User name: Your UT EID
- User password: Your UT EID password
- CA certificate: Thawte Premium Server CA
- Inner link security: EAP-MS-CHAP v2
Click Connect.
Once successfully connected, you will be prompted to save this Wi-Fi network as a profile. Leave the default profile name and click Next.
Note: If you receive an error message stating "WiFi Association Failed," you can ignore the error because your Wi-Fi connection should already be established. To verify, exit the application and see if the welcome page has a message, such as "T-Mobile - restricted.utexas.edu." The symbol on the upper right corner should also say "Wi-Fi" when you are using Wi-Fi instead of the Edge cellular network.
Click Finish.
Set Wi-Fi as the preferred connection type (Optional)
It might be to your financial advantage to set Wi-Fi as the preferred connection type over Edge (cellular) because it does not count toward your BlackBerry plan's data transfer; however, any bandwidth you use will count against your weekly bandwidth allocation.
- Select Options from main menu.
- Scroll down and select Mobile Network.
- Set Connection Preference to Wi-Fi Preferred.
