Uninstalling Windows Desktop Search
These procedures will allow you to uninstall the Windows Desktop Search feature in Windows XP and Windows Server 2003. Follow this procedure only if instructed to by Help Desk or Desktop Support personnel.
Note: You must be logged in as an administrator to complete either of these procedures.
Windows XP and Windows Server 2003
This procedure can be completed without user interaction and it will not cause the machine to restart.
- Run the following command at a command prompt: %windir%$NtUninstallKB917013$spuninstspuninst.exe /q /norestart
Note: This operation can be run centrally on a large number of machines using mechanisms such as Group Policy Object Startup Scripts, psexec remote commands or via SMS Package.
Windows XP Only
From the Windows Desktop, click Start, then click Control Panel.
Click Add or Remove Programs.
Select Windows Desktop Search, then click the Remove button.
Follow the instructions in the Windows Desktop Search Installer wizard to complete removal of this feature.
