Upgrading Your UT EID
The ID Center at The University of Texas at Austin ensures that students, faculty, and staff have access to electronic resources by upgrading an individual's UT EID. ID centers at other UT component institutions can perform the same function.
How to Upgrade Your UT EID
An upgraded EID is required in order to complete certain transactions. Having an upgraded UT EID means that:
- The university is certain of your identity.
- You can access any online program that requires an upgraded UT EID. Examples are online exams, tax forms, and digital certificate applications.
- For actions taken using an upgraded UT EID, the UT EID acts as a digital signature.
You must be 18 or older to obtain an upgraded UT EID, or you must have your parent or legal guardian sign for you if you are under 18.
Upgrade Locations
Most students, faculty, and staff have their UT EIDs upgraded when they receive their photo ID cards. If your UT EID needs to be upgraded before then, you can visit an ID center upgrade location. Alternatively, you may need to use the remote upgrade process if you are not able to visit an ID center upgrade location.
