Proximity Cards
Description
Proximity cards have a built-in reader element that is used with the Building Access Control System (BACS). This element enables the card to be used to access buildings protected by this system. Faculty and staff who have an old (issued before September 2004) ID card that does not contain a reader element can bring their old card to the ID Center and exchange it for a new proximity ID card if needed. There is no cost for this exchange unless the old ID card is lost. For more information on proximity ID cards and the Building Access Control System, please see the Campus Security Systems Web site.
Note: Do not punch holes in or bend your proximity ID card. This will break the reader element data communication wire and destroy the security access capability. There will be a charge of $10 to replace any damaged proximity ID cards.
Eligibility
Visiting Scholars and Vendors must specifically request a proximity card if one is needed and provide a letter on departmental letterhead from their sponsoring department. A $10 charge will apply.
