UT Lists

What should I do with my old Listproc list after I migrate my list?

Option 1 (Recommended): Leave the Listproc list configured, but use the `Gone to UT Lists' autoresponder.

  • Advantages: List subscribers will receive a positive redirect to the new list.
  • Disadvantages: List subscribers must resend the message to the new list.

To use this option:

  1. Go to the Autoresponder set up application.
  2. Enter the list name and password for your old lists.cc.utexas.edu list, then click Go.
  3. Enter the list name of your new UT Lists list, then click the Create autoresponder button.

The autoresponder will return a helpful redirect message to anybody who sends e-mail to the old list.

Option 2: Forward the old list to the new list

  • Advantages: E-mail to old address is not bounced.
  • Disadvantages: List subscribers will use the old list name forever.

To use this option:

  1. Remove all subscribers from your old lists.cc.utexas.edu list.
  2. Add a single new subscriber - your new mailing list at utlists.utexas.edu - to your old list.

Option 3: Delete the old Listproc list

  • Advantages: List subscribers will get the point that the list no longer exists.
  • Disadvantages: E-mail to the old list bounces without any notification.

To use this option:

  1. Close your old mailing list.
