Austin Exchange Messaging Service

Setting Up Entourage 2008, Exchange Web Services (Mac)

  • Operating System: Mac OS X 10.4.9 and later
  • Application: Microsoft Entourage 2008, Exchange Web Services

If you have an Austin Exchange Messaging Service (AEMS) account, you can use Entourage 2008 with Exchange Web Services on your Mac to access your e-mail and calendar.

Previously, Entourage 2008 used WebDAV to connect to the Microsoft Exchange Server. The new version uses Exchange Web Services instead of WebDAV to connect to the server, providing better performance, reliability, and synchronization.

Configuring Entourage for Austin Exchange Messaging Service

  1. Open Entourage. Close any wizards or dialog boxes that may open.
  2. From the Entourage menu, select Account Settings.
  3. Select the Mail tab, then click New.
  4. Select Configure account manually in the Account Setup Assistant window.
  5. From the Account Type field, choose "Exchange".
  6. On the Account Settings tab, enter "Exchange" in the Account Name field.
  7. Enter your name in the Name field.
  8. In the E-mail address field, enter your Austin (AEMS) e-mail address (for example, username@austin.utexas.edu, where username is your AEMS user name).
  9. In the Account ID field, enter your UT EID.
  10. In the Domain field, enter "austin".
  11. Enter your UT EID password in the Password field.
  12. Select the Advanced tab.
  13. In the LDAP server field, enter "directory.austin.utexas.edu", and check This LDAP server requires a secure connection (SSL). Selecting this option will automatically change the Override default LDAP port field to 3269, which is OK.
  14. Make sure that This server requires me to log on is checked and Override default LDAP port is not checked.
  15. Click OK. If prompted, enter your UT EID and password.

Once you have finished configuring Entourage, your Mac will automatically synchronize your data and download your mailbox locally. This may take some time depending on the size of your mailbox.

If you are going to use Entourage to access multiple accounts, refer to Managing Multiple Mailboxes (Mac).
