Austin Exchange Messaging Service

Manually Connecting an iPhone to Austin Exchange

These instructions are for configuring the iPhone OS 2.0 for the Austin Exchange Messaging Service using an ActiveSync connection. This will allow you to access your AEMS e-mail, as well as synchronize your iPhone contacts and calendar with your AEMS contacts and calendar.

  1. From the home screen, select Settings, then select Mail, Contacts, Calendars, then Add Account.
  2. Select Microsoft Exchange.
  3. In the E-mail field, enter your Austin e-mail address (for example, joe.user@austin.utexas.edu).
  4. In the Username field, enter "austin\youruteid".
  5. In the Password field, enter your UT EID password.
  6. Select Next. Your iPhone will attempt to connect to the Austin Exchange server but will not succeed (this is OK).
  7. In the Server field, enter "wmail.austin.utexas.edu", then click Next. Your iPhone will attempt to connect to the server and should succeed.
  8. When asked to select which folders to synchronize, make sure Mail, Contacts, and Calendars are all turned On, then select Save.

WARNING: If you synchronize your contacts and calendar, your local iPhone contacts and calendar will be replaced by the contacts and calendar on your Austin Exchange account.

Once your iPhone has synchronized with your Austin Exchange account, you can configure additional options in the account settings.

NOTE: SSL is the default connection option and should not be changed.
