Archiving Messages to Reduce Mailbox Size (Mail)

  • Operating System: Mac OS X 10.6
  • Application: Apple OS X Mail

Messages stored on your computer’s hard drive do not count toward your total mailbox size. Storing your messages locally is called archiving, which is a great way to reduce your mailbox size on the server.

NOTE: Archived messages are not available when you use Outlook Web Access (OWA) or a computer other than the one where you saved your messages.

You can archive your mailbox to your local machine and remove them from the server:

  1. Select one or more mailboxes to archive, such as your Inbox.
  2. From the Mailbox menu, choose Archive Mailbox.
  3. Choose a folder or create a new folder to save the archives, and click Choose.
