Restoring Your Mailbox

If you have accidentally deleted messages, or even your entire mailbox, you may be able to restore these items. Your desktop support staff may be able to help you with these tasks.

Restoring Items from Your Computer

  1. Check your computer to see if you accidentally moved the missing items to another folder or archived them as a Personal Storage Table (*.pst) file.
  2. Check to see if the missing items are in your Deleted Items folder.
  3. If the items are not in your Deleted Items folder it may still be possible to retrieve them using the “Recovering Deleted Items” feature in Outlook.

Note: If you use Entourage or some other e-mail program, you can access this feature via Outlook Web Access in Internet Explorer 6 or later.

Restoring Items from System Backups

If the methods described above do not work, items can be restored from ITS system backups.

Note: If you use a POP client, ITS might not be able to restore your items from system backups.

To request file restoration from system backups, you or your desktop support staff should contact the ITS Help Desk with the following information:

  1. The EID for the mailbox account in question.
  2. The date and approximate time when the missing items were last known to be present, and when their loss was suspected.
  3. Whether the entire mailbox, or just specific subfolders need to be restored. If specific subfolders need to be restored, please provide the exact folder path with proper spelling. For example, “Inbox/Contracts/Pending”.

This process requires several hours to complete. You will receive an e-mail message from the ITS Help Desk when your items have been restored.
