Strategic IT Advisory Board Makes Two Major Endorsements
March 9, 2012
During their quarterly meeting, the Strategic IT Advisory Board (SITAB) endorsed the Administrative Systems Master Plan (ASMP) and the Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) recommendation.
SITAB members agreed that completion of the ASMP marks a true milestone for campus. Cited as an outstanding example of campus-wide collaboration, the ASMP was developed by the Business Services Committee with wide campus participation. This plan provides the direction for aligning future administrative systems investments to the University’s mission and goals.
In addition, the VoIP recommendation was also created by a campus-wide task force. Under the auspices of the IT Architecture and Infrastructure Committee, the VoIP task force addressed the need to move the current telephone system to modern VoIP technology. Using VoIP, campus will be changing how telephone services will be provided. The change portends lower costs to provide telephone service in the years ahead, while increasing flexibility and the availability of new features.
Both these initiatives also have line items in this year's Information Technology Services (ITS) capital budget. President Powers thanked everyone involved in IT governance and commented on how great it is to have plans in place in these key areas.
