March 8, 2013

This week’s SXSWedu Conference and Festival brings together knowledge leaders, distinguished speakers, and a highly engaged and creative community of participants. In its third year, the education (a.k.a., “edu”) part of the conference is focused on ways technology is being used to enhance and remake education. Presentations, work sessions and meet-ups have focused on such topics as:

  • Data analytics
  • Massive Open Online Courses (MOOCs)
  • Deepening collaboration with industry and philanthropy
  • Narrowing the digital divide through innovative uses of mobile devices
  • Helping students learn-by-doing with creative applications of the “maker mindset”
  • Harnessing technology specifically to achieve teaching, learning, and research goals

On Saturday, March 9, 2013, President Powers will present on “Innovation U. – Getting Great Ideas Out the Door.” Embracing the idea that research universities have a key role to play in our rapidly transitioning economy, President Powers will outline his vision of how the relationship between innovation and higher education provides essential building blocks for our scientific and economic future. By teaching students how to solve problems and advance knowledge, UT Austin is at the forefront of transforming higher education today.
