March 1, 2013

At the Austin Forum on Tuesday, March 5, 2013, Dr. John (Jay) R. Boisseau, Director of Texas Advanced Computing Center, (TACC) will present the new Stampede Supercomputing System. The system was formally launched in January 2013 to enable discoveries that advance science and change our world. TACC, in collaboration with both Dell and Intel, received a $55.1 million competitive grant from the National Science Foundation (NSF) to design, develop, deploy and maintain the new system. Stampede will support research in a wide variety of disciplines, enabling massive computations to address the biggest research problems in our world. It also provides tremendous visualization and data analysis capabilities.

Dr. Boisseau’s talk will cover:

  • Stampede supercomputing system design
  • How both modeling/simulation and 'Big Data' science applications will be enabled
  • Some early results of the new Stampede system
