Wi-Fi Milestone
May 6, 2011
For the first time this past week, Information Technology Services (ITS) Networking and Telecommunications reported over 20,000 simultaneous connections on the campus Wi-Fi network!
Networking began tracking wireless usage in the spring 2003 and recorded less than 1,000 simultaneous connections at that time. By spring 2009, there were 10,000+ customers; two years later, campus can celebrate the amazing wireless growth to 20,000+ simultaneous customers.
Achieving this milestone took planning, coordination and collaboration. Congratulations go to IT staff across campus for acquiring the wireless access points that have enabled this dramatic increase in coverage on campus. Kudos go to ITS Networking staff for continuing to anticipate this growth and effectively building the core network infrastructure to support this expanding capability for students, faculty and staff.
