If you're a faculty or staff member who wants to use campus IT resources while you're away from the university during the summer, use the following checklist from Information Technology Services (ITS) to work safely and effectively.
- E-mail – If you have an AEMS e-mail account, you can access your messages and calendar from Internet Explorer by logging in to Outlook Web Access. You can check your UMBS e-mail account from any Internet-connected computer using Webmail.
- BevoWare – Update your anti-virus and anti-spyware software with free downloads of BevoWare security software and updates. The summer poses extra online security risks, so it's important to make sure that your computers meet the university’s minimum security requirements, which protect yourself and your work.
- Virtual Private Network (VPN) – An Internet connection alone won't give you access to the campus network. You need to create a secure connection using the Virtual Private Network (VPN.) The VPN works with your regular Internet connection so you can safely access campus- only resources. Download the VPN program from BevoWare.
- WebSpace – You can use WebSpace to access your files on or off campus, from any Web browser. In addition to accessing and sharing files online, you can use WebSpace to safely store sensitive digital data. Every member of campus is provided 1 gigabyte (GB) of WebSpace file storage on the university network.
- SmartVoice – If your school or department provides you with a SmartVoice account, you can call the voicemail server access number (512-471-2100) or forward your voice messages to your e-mail inbox. You can also use the remote SmartVoice Web client. This allows you to access your messages from your computer or mobile device no matter where you are, 24/7.
Note: If you have trouble accessing any of these services, check the intersession maintenance schedule. Many ITS services undergo planned maintenance during the winter break and may be temporarily unavailable.
