August 10, 2011
The Longhorn Innovation Fund for Technology (LIFT) award recipients for 2011-2012 have been selected by the Research and Educational Technology Committee (R&E). The committee, which is part of the IT governance structure at The University of Texas at Austin, is responsible for allocating close to $500,000 in LIFT funds towards innovative technology projects that benefit the campus community. The following proposals were selected out of a field of 28 to receive funding:
- Bridging the Gap in Arts Integration Theory and Practice: A "Crowdsourcing" Approach to Digital Resource Development for Texas Educators
- CLARITY- Technology for enhancing oral communication
- Development of a Health Information Technology Interoperability Laboratory Field
- Reaching Undergraduates with Research: Remote Observing on a 36" Telescope
- Transforming UT's Award Winning DigiMorph.org into a National Repository for 3D (Voxel) Datasets
LIFT is intended primarily as one-time seed money for innovative academic technology projects that leverage information technology in order to improve quality of instruction, create a differentiator for attracting higher caliber students to the University, or result in a competitive advantage to the University in attracting sponsored research. Preference is given to proposals that address significant campus needs in innovative ways, that have a likelihood of success, and that have a breadth of impact of value to the University.
