At the start of the academic year, it's tradition to share some fun facts from last (fiscal) year that demonstrate some of the ways Information Technology Services (ITS) provides ongoing support to students, faculty and staff at the University:

  • 29,523,611,550,004,000+—Number of bits that passed through UTnet core routers
  • 21,000,000+—Number of hours that customers connected to the wireless network
  • 100,000+—Unique devices on the campus wireless network
  • 5,000+—Wireless access points on campus
  • 60,448—Number of phone calls fielded by the ITS Help Desk
  • 37,204—Number of ID cards issued by the ID Center
  • 100%—University Data Center (UDC) service availability to customers
  • 2,233 Terabytes—UDC network traffic in and out
  • 806—Total number of devices moved into the new UDC
  • 600,000—Electronic IDs created
  • 11,700,000—UT Direct visits per month
  • 1—New mainframe computer
  • 253,000,000—Number of email messages sent from UT Austin
  • 16.37—Miles of fiber optic cable pulled this summer through the sweltering tunnels for the Longhorn Network
  • 602—New cell phone antennas installed this summer in the football stadium
  • 13,600+—Number of email accounts on Austin Exchange Messaging Service (AEMS) with expanded 2 GB mailbox size
  • 35,300+—Number of UTmail accounts for students, including 1,000 alumni in the pre-release test group
