Successful University Data Center Test Move

October 15, 2010

On Tuesday, October 5, 2010, the University Data Center (UDC) project team successfully executed the Phase 1, Data Center Test Move. This day long exercise verified the move process and was a collaborative effort with the professional move vendor, University Libraries, and Information Technology Services (ITS) staff.

Lessons learned from the test move gives the team plenty of time to adjust in preparation for moving more production ITS services in November and December 2010, and additional customers systems in January 2011. Scaling the process in upcoming moves is crucial due to the number of devices that will be moved. There is also a clear understanding of the need to lock down the devices and network configurations ahead of time.

The teamwork involved in executing the test move was significant. Mike Cunningham, UDC Director, said to all who participated in the test move," I want to extend my thanks for your efforts yesterday. It was an awesome day, mostly due to your preparation, tenacity, and sweating the small stuff. I am greatly appreciative!"
