Strategic IT Accountability Board - Fall 2011 Update
At the September 26, 2011 quarterly meeting, the Strategic Information Technology Accountability Board (SITAB) endorsed:
- ITS FY 2011-2012 Capital Budget—The proposed ITS capital budget was approved and includes funding to begin the finish-out of the data center's East Hall, implementing additional disaster recovery for critical services, initiating Voice over IP (VoIP) core technology upgrades, upgrading the web infrastructure, continuing investments in IT security, establishing an open systems development environment (this need anticipated per the Administrative Systems Master Plan under development) and upgrading the Building Access Control System.
- Internal IT Staff Recruiting Guidelines—The committee liked the idea of establishing guidelines for internal IT staff recruiting on campus in order to build a vibrant ecosystem of IT talent. The new guidelines foster communications among employees and management and are designed to build a stronger IT workforce.
SITAB also received an update on:
- Email Strategy—UTmail powered by Google (@utexas.edu) now has ~34,000 student accounts to-date and has been launched to former students. Austin Exchange (@austin.utexas.edu) was upgraded this summer for faculty and staff with 2 GB inboxes (previously 200 MB). In November, 2011, communications about the retirement of the University Mailbox Service (UMBS, @mail.utexas.edu) during the summer of 2012 will begin and outline the steps for students, faculty and staff using UMBS to migrate to a better email service.
