University Data Center Successfully Completes Second Move

November 16, 2010

On Saturday, November 6, 2010, Information Technology Services (ITS) successfully completed the second move to the new University Data Center (UDC), transporting 54 servers from ITS, the Information Security Office and Texas Exes into the new facility. Detailed planning efforts paid off and there was an impressive display of teamwork and open communication from everyone involved. ITS Systems, Networking and Data Center teams all worked hard to accomplish the move with minimal downtime and in a safe and efficient manner.

Brad Englert, Chief Information Officer, shared a link with campus stakeholders to the on-line, tracking tool used during the move. It gave them a real-time view of both process and progress as the move took place. The feedback from the move was very positive; customers expressed appreciation for the level of detail and coordination going into the move process and provided constructive feedback on both the tool and the move itself.

Mike Cunningham, Director, UDC, acknowledged the hard work involved when he said to the team: “Thanks for another very successful move! Thanks for the long hours you put in, prior to and on the day of the move. Thanks for ‘sweating the small stuff’ and paying attention to the details. Your efforts are outstanding.”

So what is the bottom line? ITS is now prepared and ready for the bigger moves to the new UDC in December 2010 and January, 2011.
