Standard Configurations Lead to Cost Savings
In January 2011, Information Technology Services announced the availability of improved desktop and laptop configurations as the result of a cross-campus group defining more relevant hardware configurations that resulted in lower pricing from Dell.
In the past nine months, 60% of the 1,836 DELL desktops purchased on campus have used the standard configuration, saving the University over $220,000. This is great news and shows how campus collaboration generates savings for the entire University community. During the same time period only 33% of 722 new laptops took advantage of the standard configurations and lower pricing. To address this, the same cross-campus group is analyzing the standard configuration for laptops to better meet campus needs - including factory installed encryption - to drive more savings.
Those interested in gaining access to these configurations via the Dell Premier website for UT Austin, can email the UT Austin Dell contact, Jonathan Negrey at Jonathan_Negrey@Dell.com.
