ITS Employees Receive Special Recognitions

December 6, 2010

Two Information Technology Services (ITS) employees have recently received awards for outstanding customer service and their commitment to the University.

Top Hand Award

Cole McClellan, ITS Project Manager, recently received a "Top Hand Award" from the Texas Exes Association. The award is given to individuals who have given extraordinary service to the Texas Exes and the University. In presenting the award, Richard Leshin, President of the Texas Exes Board, said “From time to time and at the discretion of the current Texas Exes president, we recognize a significant contribution to the Texas Exes by a volunteer. You might call it our Un-Sung Hero Award . . . With less than a week's notice, this year’s award recipient was recognized for his work in getting the campus ready for President Obama’s visit last summer. We all see him riding around campus with more keys than a jailor dangling from his belt. That’s because as project manager for Information Technology Services, he has contributed to every major event at the university during his forty-four years on staff, including many Texas Exes events. From our sound needs for the Distinguished Alumnus Awards presentation, to staging for our Hex Rallies, to helping us secure a new alumni center sound system, he has always been available to us as a consultant and all-around good friend. It is my pleasure to award Cole McClellan with the “Top Hand Award.” Cole, thank you for all your hard work over the years.” We are all proud of you Cole. Congratulations!

2010 Cathy Lester IT Excellence Award

The Cathy Lester Endowment for IT Excellence promotes and recognizes excellence in the administrative IT community at the University. Annual cash prizes are awarded to outstanding information technology analysts. This year Jim Ferrero, Senior Software Engineer, was selected to receive the award. Jim is primarily responsible for the UTDirect infrastructure and a variety of related systems. He was nominated for being someone “who always goes above and beyond the call to help other developers and departments.” Fantastic job, Jim! Congratulations on receiving this award.
