Strategic IT Accountability Board - December 2010 Update
During its final quarterly meeting of the year, the Strategic IT Accountability Board (SITAB) received updates on three key IT projects currently underway: data storage, voice over IP (VoIP), and the move to the new University Data Center. The board also endorsed two recommendations: the new student email solution and a statement about the progress Information Technology Services has made as an organization since the Strategic IT Advisory Committee (SITAC) report was published in August 2009.
In response to the October 2010 IT Governance Progress and Implementation Report, Alex Albright, Chair of the Operational IT (OIT) committee, presented a draft statement approved by OIT regarding SITAC Initiative 4: Address Negative Perceptions of ITS. As a group, OIT wanted to affirm the substantial progress ITS has made as an organization during the past fifteen months. The statement acknowledges that “ITS has confronted the urgent priorities identified in the SITAC Report and we recognize these changes as positive.” Based on gains made in establishing understanding, trust and accountability for ITS-provided services, increasing efficiency within the organization and building a service-oriented culture, SITAB unanimously agreed with the OIT statement that it is now time for ITS to focus on the future.
President Powers shared an observation that while there may still be grumblings around campus, things are getting done in IT and that he is confident ITS will continue to be successful in implementing strategic IT initiatives approved by IT governance. The statement acknowledges the hard work, commitment and professionalism of ITS staff in making the transformation of the organization a reality.
