8/12/2013 - Migrations are being put on hold until issues are worked out, fully tested, and the backlog of support requests at the ITS Help Desk are addressed. This will enable us to develop a revised action plan and schedule before we resume the migrations. An upcoming meeting for Technical Support Contacts (TSCs) is scheduled for August 15th.
Ongoing Updates: Office 365 Migration
Office 365 is a Microsoft hosted messaging solution that delivers the capabilities of Microsoft Outlook as a cloud-based service. This means your email services and data will be located in data centers owned and managed by Microsoft. It gives users a rich and familiar access to email, calendar and contacts allowing access by PC’s, Mac, the web and mobile devices. By utilizing this service, it removes the University’s operational burden for an on-premises hosted email service.
Office 365 is the online version of Microsoft Outlook which has all the same email, calendar and contacts features as our current on premises hosted Outlook email known as Austin Exchange Messaging Service. In addition, the mailbox size limit has been increased to 25GB. Users may also access their email through a web browser using Outlook Web App or from a variety of mobile devices. Additionally, this service includes; secure access, security audits, service continuity, intrusion monitoring and high availability.
Office 365 will be available at no cost to current University of Texas at Austin faculty and staff.
