Fiscal Year 2010 Prices Effective September 1, 2009

Prices on the following services have changed as of September 1, 2009. Please refer to the individual service pages for details.

  • ITS Printing Services - Printing cost per page for black-and-white laser printing has been reduced to $0.09 per page.
  • ITS User Services - Prices have been reduced for desktop support, server support, and lab support services.
  Cost

Apollo

Apollo is a mainframe authorization repository with customizable application profiles and limited group management functionality.
Apollo is available at no cost to developers.

Audio-Visual and Multimedia

Provides multimedia equipment rentals, installation, repair, and maintenance, two-way radio systems, and special events support.
Multimedia equipment rentals, installation, repair, and maintenance costs depend on the services needed. Refer to the equipment rentals cost page for more information, or fill out the appropriate order form for an estimate.

Austin Active Directory

Provides authentication infrastructure for many campus services, including Austin Disk, AEMS and WebSpace, as well as controlling access to computing resources.
Austin Active Directory is available at no cost to participating departments.

Austin BlackBerry Service

Provides access to your Austin Exchange Messaging Service e-mail and calendar from your BlackBerry device.
$10 per month (billed annually), in addition to the cost of a BlackBerry Enterprise Service-compatible data package from your wireless service provider.

Austin Disk Services

Enterprise-level storage that meets the minimum ISO standards for storing Category-1 data. Provides fast file access and excellent application and OS compatibility.
Requires a Windows Services Account (no charge) with the Austin Disk Services option. Each 1 GB costs $5 per year. Individuals can purchase disk space online in 1 GB increments, up to 20 GB. Departments can also purchase disk space online, with a minimum allocation of 50 GB.

Austin Exchange Messaging Service

Full-featured e-mail, calendar, and more on the Exchange platform.
AEMS is available at no cost to current University of Texas at Austin faculty and staff. Additional mailbox space is $7 per gigabyte per year.

Austin Printing Services

Printing from a Windows computer on Austin Active Directory.
Austin Printing Service is available at no cost to Austin Active Directory subscribers with an existing ITS support contract. However, the department or college must supply the printer and supplies, or lease a printer through Contract Printing Services.

Automated Attendants

An auto-attendant can help route calls or serve as a "back-up" when your receptionist is unavailable.

BevoWare is available at no cost to all UT Austin students, faculty, and staff.

Blackboard

An online course management application for students and faculty.
Green IT: Sharing class materials online reduces paper printing and therefore paper waste.
Blackboard is available at no cost to all enrolled students and to faculty who are teaching courses.

Cabling and Wiring

ITS runs data cables for voice, video, and data services.
The cost for cabling and wiring services depends on both the building and the services required. Refer to the cost estimator for more information.

Campus Cable TV

Cable TV services for educational purposes for colleges, departments, and offices. THIS IS NOT RESIDENCE HALL CABLE.
Cable TV programming is available at no cost, but there is a maintenance fee of $208 per year for each device connected to the campus broadband system. Installation costs vary; refer to the cabling/wiring installation cost estimator.

Campus Computer Labs

Listing of computer labs around campus with both PCs and Macs.
Use of computer labs on campus is available at no cost to all UT Austin students, faculty, and staff. Printing is charged by the page.

Campus Security Systems

Designs, installs, and maintains security systems around campus.
Cost will vary depending on the services needed. Please fill out the appropriate order form to request an estimate.

Computer Drop-off Service

Software installation for your personally owned laptop or desktop.

Computer Equipment Repair for Departments

Low-cost, on-campus repair services and contracts for computers (PC and Mac), printers, monitors, and lab equipment.

As of September 1, 2008, labor is $55 per hour, with a one-hour minimum. Repair estimates are $35, and the cost is credited toward the repair. A technician trip charge is $46. Equipment can be picked up or dropped off for an additional $25. If parts are needed, there is a $5 minimum charge.

Printer maintenance pricing is as follows:

  • Dell Laser printers - $150.00 per printer
  • HP LaserJet 4000s, 4050s, 8000s, 8050s - $100.00 per printer
  • HP LaserJet 4200s, 4300s, 4500s etc - $150.00 per printer
  • Lexmark Optra S & Ts - $150.00 per printer
  • Lexmark, Dell & HP Color Laser Printers - $250.00 per printer

Contract Printing Services

ITS can provide printers and supplies for departments.
Contract printing services are available at no cost to the department providing the printing minimums are met. Individuals pay for their printouts using BevoBucks or ITS Prepaid Accounts.

Software and Web application development.
Cost depends on the services needed and the length of the contract. Refer to Contracts for more information.

Custom Web Publishing

For departmental and research unit Web sites that require a custom URL and content hosting.
Green IT: Consolidating your server needs by using ITS hosting saves significant power - approximately 6570 kWh per year per server.
Costs vary slightly depending on whether you select Windows or Unix technologies.
  • Basic account for Windows or Unix technology
  • Domain name registration and hosting
  • Content hosting for Unix is $150; content hosting for Windows is handled on a contract basis
  • Optional database in MySQL or SQL Server
  • Optional VeriSign Certificate to support SSL-enabled authentication: $150 per calendar year for utexas.edu, utexas.org, utexas.net domains, and custom domains registered with the UT System Managed PKI program at Verisign; $400 per calendar year for custom domains that are not associated with the university.

Database Services Consulting

Assistance with database design and implementation.
Database consultations are available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff. Consultations are limited to 45 minutes per week per person. Students who are doing database projects as part of course work are not eligible for this service.

Digital Certificates

Provides dual-key user certificates to enable encryption of e-mail and files, electronic signatures, and central management of the certificates.
Digital certificates are available at no cost to faculty and staff with e-mail addresses in supported domains (*utexas.edu and some vanity domains.)

Enterprise Whole Disk Encryption

Provides software to encrypt portable Windows devices that store Category-1 data. Includes a management interface and options to help desktop support staff manage and support computers.
Enterprise Whole Disk Encryption is available to faculty and staff at no cost. If you are in a department at a UT System institution other than The University of Texas at Austin, refer to the SafeBoot product page for information about purchasing options.

FAC Computer Labs

Offers three different computer lab spaces, featuring both Mac and Windows computers. Printing available for a fee.
The FAC computer labs are available at no cost to students, faculty, and staff. Printing is charged by the page.

FTP Server

Provides exact copies (mirrors) of popular FTP sites on local campus computers.
FTP server access is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff.

Green Output

Send your mainframe reports to WebSpace or Austin Disk accounts instead of printing them.
Green IT: Reduces paper printing and therefore paper waste.
Green Output is available at no cost to individuals who need mainframe reports. In fact, using Green Output will reduce your paper printing costs.

Group E-mail

Used for sending important messages to specific groups in the university community.
Group E-mail is available at no cost to authorized users.

Hard Drive Destruction

Environmentally-friendly destruction of hard drives and other electronic media that have Category-I data on them.
Green IT: 100% of destroyed media are recycled.
Hard drive destruction is available at no cost to UT faculty and staff members for UT-owned equipment.

ID Center

Issues photo ID cards and proximity cards and provides upgrades for UT EIDs.
A $10 fee is charged for each photo ID card.

ITS Help Desk

Provides the university with a centralized point of contact for technical support services by calling 512-475-9400.
Consulting with the ITS Help Desk via phone, chat, e-mail, or the walk-in services is available at no cost to students, faculty and staff. There is a fee for the Drop-off Service.

ITS User Services

Reliable, competitively priced, proactive management for departmental IT needs including desktops, laptops, servers, and student-use labs.
Costs vary depending on the services and level of support needed. Consult our pricing information.

LabMan

Automates and streamlines the management and administration of computer labs for Windows XP and Macintosh workstations.

UT-LabMan is available at no cost.

Laptop Checkout Service

PC and Mac laptops available for checkout by current students, faculty, and staff.
The laptop checkout service is available at no cost to current students, faculty, and staff. However, late fees may apply.

Long Distance Service

Long distance service from university phones.
Prices vary depending on long distance calling options. Refer to the long distance rates for more information.

Mail Filtering Service

Provides mail delivery, spam filtering and virus protection for mail servers across campus.
Mail Filtering Service is available at no cost to departments.

Mainframe

An administrative computing system that hosts a variety of administrative applications integral to the university.
Mainframe access is available at no cost to UT staff who require access to administrative applications.

Microsoft SQL Server

An enterprise-level database management system from Microsoft.
The base price for SQL Server is $150 per year for up to six named databases. Additional named databases can be purchased in quantities of six for an additional $150 per year. Additional storage space is $7 per year per GB.

MySQL

A popular database management system that is often combined with PHP scripting.

Fully Managed

The Fully Managed MySQL database service costs $150 per year for up to six named databases. Additional named databases can be purchased in quantities of six for an additional $150 per year. Additional storage space is $7 per gigabyte per year. The Fully Managed version can be ordered through the Request MySQL Database Services form.

Self-Managed with Commerical Support

The commercial support contract has two cost structures: $700 per server assessed annually, or $2500 per department assessed annually covering an unlimited number of department-owned MySQL servers. The Self-Managed version can be ordered through TXShop.

Network Time Protocol (NTP) Services

Used to synchronize computer clocks to Coordinated Universal Time (UTC).
NTP services are available at no cost to computers on the campus domain.

Network and Domain Registrar Services

Register your utexas.edu, utexas.org, or utexas.net domain name, and hosts subdomains under the utexas.net and utexas.org domains, as well as custom domains.

Register and host domain name that ends in utexas.edu. For example, lib.utexas.edu, facultyjobs.utexas.edu.

For university-wide services, projects, departments and organizations. Name must be approved by ITS.

Register and host domain name that ends in utexas.net or utexas.org. For example, alumni.utexas.net, mediaresearch.utexas.org.

$51 per year to register and host the domain name.

Host "vanity" domain names. For example, informalclasses.org, blantonmuseum.org.

You must register the domain name with an external provider.

Cost of registering domain name with external provider, plus $51 per year to host the domain name.

Charges cover all the individual host names you may wish to put in your domain, such as www.yourdomain.org and mail.yourdomain.org. You are not charged separately for each name you register within your domain, only for the domain itself.

Renewals will be billed automatically at the turn of the fiscal year, September 1. You must submit notification prior to September 1 if you want to cancel hosting; send cancellation requests by email to domains@its.utexas.edu or by letter to the Business Office. There is no prorating done for domains registered late in the fiscal year.

Networks for Departments

Provides assistance with designing, installing, maintaining, and managing networks on the main university campus and PRC.
Network design consulting services are available at no cost to UT departments, colleges, and university organizations. For information about the costs of running cable for your network, refer to the cost estimator. For information about the cost of network equipment maintenance, fill out the Network Equipment Service Agreement.

PHP

A general purpose scripting language that is frequently used with MySQL.
The PHP scripting language is available at no cost to users with a Departmental (Web Central) Publishing account, a Faculty Publishing account, a Student Organization Publishing account, or if you use Custom Web Publishing.

Printing Services

Print in many labs and facilities across campus, from both lab computers and your personal computer.
Printing costs $0.09 per page for black and white laser printing, $0.80 for color laser printing, and $1.60 for color laser transparencies.

Python Production Environment (PyPE)

Provides a Web application development environment for mainframe applications. Use as an alternative to webAgent.
Python Production Environment (PyPE) is provided at no charge to developers.

Resnet: Residence Hall Network

Provides wired and wireless Internet access in the campus residence halls.
Resnet offers several tiers of service with different costs and bandwidth options. Students can register when they arrive for the fall semester using on-site signup, or they can pre-register when they complete their Housing Contract and receive a significant discount.

SANS Training

Provides SANS Institute certification for technical staff who meet Information Security Administrator requirements.

Satellite Programming

Satellite uplink and downlink services for educational, news, cultural programming, and videoconferences.
Satellite downlinks are available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff. Uplinks have a $100 per uplink charge, plus a $50 per hour facility charge. Satellite transponder charges ($550-$1000 per hour) are paid by the requester directly to the transponder owner.

Secure Messaging

Used for transmitting sensitive messages and data securely to anyone doing business with the UT System.
Secure Messaging is available at no cost to UT System employees.

Server Technical Support

Technical support focused on Windows and Unix servers and labs.
One hour of initial consulting time is available at no cost to UT faculty and staff. Charges for additional time depend on the services needed.

SharePoint

Manage your team's documents and boost collaboration with a centrally-accessible, Web-based application.
Green IT: Collaborating electronically with remote colleagues reduces travel and therefore your carbon footprint.
SharePoint is available for $1200 per year for a non-branded URL, and $1600 per year for a branded URL.

Shibboleth

An open source authentication tool used to provide a single sign-on across UT System institutions.
Shibboleth is available at no cost to UT faculty and staff.

Short Links Service

Lets you shorten lengthy URLs for specific domains in The University of Texas at Austin family of Web sites.

SmartVoice Voice Mail

SmartVoice voice mail for the university is accessible by desktop phone, computer, e-mail, and cell phone.
Voice mail is $2.60 per month per mailbox, including 20 MB storage for messages and greetings. For new mailboxes, there is a $23 per box installation charge, and a $23 per order new order charge.

Software Developer Training Program

A unique training program where individuals are trained on the job to become Software Developers. Upon successful completion of training, individuals join project teams at the university.

Stellent Content Management

Enterprise-level content management system.
The Stellent content management system is available at no cost to Web Central publishing users.

TN3270

Terminal emulation software that allows desktop users to connect remotely to the UT Austin Administrative Computer System.
TN3270 is available at no cost to users connecting remotely to the UT Austin Administrative Computer System.

Teleconferences

"Meet-Me" teleconferences and operator-assisted teleconferences are available.
Green IT: Attending meetings via teleconference reduces travel and therefore your carbon footprint.

Telephone Service

Thesis and Dissertation Support

Microsoft Word templates with predefined styles, margins, and page numbers for creating your Masters thesis or Ph.D. dissertation.
Thesis templates are available at no cost to UT graduate students.

Training

ITS provides classes for university staff on several services, as well as intensive training programs for technical staff.
Training services are provided at low or no cost to faculty and staff. Contact the ITS Training Team for specific cost information.

UMBS E-mail

The university's mail service on the mail.utexas.edu domain for current UT Austin students, faculty, and staff.
The UMBS e-mail service is available at no cost to current UT Austin students, faculty, and staff.

UT Direct

UT Direct is a customizable university portal that provides personalized information and services based the user's EID.
UT Direct is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff.

UT Direct Notifications

Permits faculty and staff to securely send confidential information to members of the university community.
UT Direct Notifications are available at no cost to authorized users.

UT Directory-White Pages Service (WHIPS)

A directory of public information about students, faculty and staff at The University of Texas at Austin.
The directory is available at no cost to everyone at the university.

UT EID

The unique electronic identifier for anyone who interacts with the university.
A UT EID is available at no cost to everyone at UT.

UT Lists

Mailing list service for the university community.
UT Lists are available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff.

UTForge

A Web interface designed to allow campus developers to store and share code.
UTForge is available at no cost to UT faculty and staff members.

Uniform Call Distribution

For customer service centers, order departments, or help desks to handle large volumes of incoming calls.

University Blog Service

Provides a standardized blogging platform for individuals, groups, projects, and departments.
University Blog Service is available at no cost to faculty and staff.

University Data Center

Houses critical university IT systems and provides co-location facilities.
Contact the UDC if you are interested in co-locating server equipment in the new facility.

University Telephone Operators

Provides university directory information and call routing.
The university operator service is available at no cost to users.

Videoconferencing

Host or participate in videoconferences for distance education, meetings, presentation, lectures, research, or supplemental education.
Green IT: Attending events by videoconference reduces travel and therefore your carbon footprint.
The network connection required for videoconferencing on the statewide UT System Video Network is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff. Departments that own the videoconferencing rooms may charge a facility fee. Outbound, dial-out ISDN connections are $50 plus line charges (there are no charges for a dial-in ISDN connection).

Virtual ID Cards

Display your Virtual ID Card instead of your actual university photo identification card at places like Recreational Sports, University Libraries, and the Flawn Academic Center (FAC).
Use of a Virtual ID Card is available at no cost to members of UT.

Virtual Private Network

Allows you to securely access the university's internal network just as if you were connected on campus.
Green IT: Working from remote locations reduces travel and therefore your carbon footprint.
The VPN solution is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, staff, and official visitors.

Virtual Servers

Provides a customized virtual server environment.
Green IT: Consolidating your server needs by using a virtual server - instead of a physical machine - saves significant power.

There are four levels of virtual servers available, as well as add-ons that can be purchased to fit your server needs.

Warranty Repair Service

Warranty hardware repair for personally owned PCs and Macs is available through the Campus Computer Store.
Cost depends on the parts and services needed, and what repairs are covered under your computer's warranty.

Web Analytics: Urchin

Use Web server log files to find out about the traffic on your Web site.
Urchin site scans, also known as profiles, are available at no cost to departments, colleges, and faculty and staff organizations at UT Austin.

Web Central

The primary Web server and publishing environment for The University of Texas at Austin.
Web Central is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, staff, and departments. Publishers have some costs, depending on the service required.

Web Conferencing

Create collaborative meetings or presentations using Adobe Connect.
Green IT: Using web conferencing instead of traveling to events reduces your carbon footprint.
Web conferencing using Adobe Connect is available at no cost to faculty and staff. Students may use Web conferencing for classroom purposes with the sponsorship of a faculty member.

Web Publishing Consulting

Supports Web publishing for the campus community.
Cost depends on the services needed and the length of the contract.

Web Publishing for Faculty

Publish course materials on Web Central.
A Unix Web Publishing account is required for faculty to publish course materials to Web Central and costs $10 per year.

Web Publishing for Student Organizations

Publish a Web site for your student organization on Web Central.
A Unix Web Publishing account is required and costs $10 per year.

Web Publishing on Unix

Publish Web sites using Unix technologies.
$10 per year for 5 MB disk space, $11 per year for 10 MB disk space. Additional disk space is $2 per year per 10 MB.

Web Publishing on Web Central (Departments)

The place for colleges, departments, and organizations to publish Web sites on www.utexas.edu.
A Unix Web Publishing account is required and costs $10 per year. MySQL is an additional $150 per year if needed.

Web Publishing on Windows

Windows-based (IIS) shared Web hosting services includes access to ColdFusion, SQL Server, and integration with Austin Active Directory and Austin Disk Services.
The cost for web hosting service depends on options including SSL certificates and backend databases. Please fill out the Windows Web Publishing request form to get an estimate.

Web Quality: IBM Rational Policy Tester

Scan your Web site for quality issues.
Watchfire/WebXM site scans are available at no cost to departments, colleges, and organizations at UT Austin.

Web Security: IBM Rational AppScan Enterprise

Scan your Web site for security issues.

WebSpace

No cost personal Web publishing and file storage for current students, faculty, and staff.
Green IT: Sharing information online reduces paper printing and therefore paper waste.
WebSpace is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff.

Webcasts and Streaming Media

Provides live Webcasts and archival encoding of streaming media files.
Green IT: Watching Webcasts instead of traveling to events reduces your carbon footprint.
Encoding service is available at no cost to UT departments, faculty, and staff. Room charges (from the department that owns the room) may apply if you need a facility in which to produce streaming media programs.

Webmail

Browser-based e-mail program used to check e-mail from any computer with Internet access. Especially useful with a UMBS E-mail account.
Webmail is available at no cost to university students, faculty, and staff.

Windows Deployment Services

Deploy images directly to UT-owned workstations and laptops located on the UT campus.
The WDS service is available at no cost to authorized staff.

Windows Server Consulting

Assistance with Windows server and domain issues.
An initial 30 minute consultation is available at no cost to UT faculty and staff. Further consultations, including on-site consulting and long term contracts, are available for $95 per hour.

Windows Services Accounts

Provides many enterprise-level options, such as e-mail and calendar, Web publishing, disk storage, and more.
A Windows Services Account is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff; refer to the individual services for specific pricing information.

Windows Software Update Service

Keep your Windows computer up-to-date with the latest service packs, critical updates, and security updates.
The Windows Software Update Service is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff.

Windows Terminal Services (WTS)

Access Windows applications without having to buy copies of your own.
Windows Terminal Services is available at no cost when you have a Windows Services Account with the Austin Disk Services ($5/year) option. This includes 1 GB of storage; additional storage is available for an additional fee.

Wireless and Wired Public Internet Access

Wired and wireless access to the Internet from the main university campus and PRC.

External bandwidth available at no cost:

  • Students: 500 MB/week
  • Faculty: 10 GB/week
  • Staff and official visitors: 2 GB/week
  • Part-time staff: 1 GB/week

uTexas Enterprise Directory (TED)

A private enterprise directory service for use by departments and campus employees.
The uTexas Enterprise Directory is available at no cost to UT students, faculty, and staff.

uTexas Identity Manager (TIM)

Provides services that manage identity information and access to administrative and academic systems at UT.
The uTexas Identity Manager is available at no cost to users with UT EID accounts.
