Supplying Printers to Departments
ITS offers contract printer services to campus departments. ITS provides the printer and supplies:
- a black and white or color laser printer
- paper supplies
- toner cartridges
- equipment maintenance
- replacement parts or printer replacement
Each printer can have encryption translation capability.
The department provides the location for the lab and proctors to staff it:
- a secure printer location
- an Ethernet connection to UTnet
- an operator, someone to load paper, distribute output, etc.
The department must guarantee a minimum output of 20,000 pages per year per printer (15,000 for a color printer), and the physical security of the machine and supplies. Printer replacement is only for the printer's normal lifecycle, not for theft or abuse.
ITS will attach the printer to the campus network and will keep its name and location in the configuration tables for campus-wide printing services, thus making the printer available to machines connected to UTnet. ITS recovers its costs through user-paid printing costs.
