The University of Texas at Austin

MATLAB

Overview

The University of Texas at Austin has a campus-wide MathWorks Total Academic Headcount (TAH) site license for the usage of MATLAB, Simulink, and 23 companion toolboxes, effective January 1, 2013.

Usage

Under TAH there is campus-wide access on university-owned computers by all faculty, staff, and students. Faculty and academic staff are also entitled to install TAH software on their personally-owned computers. Students are expressly prohibited from installing TAH software on their personally-owned computers. However, students who are university employees (e.g., teaching assistant, graduate research assistant) are considered academic staff and are allowed to install TAH on their personally-owned computers. Anyone who has been using commercial MathWorks licenses must continue to do so; TAH is for academic use only.

Products

The TAH license provides unlimited usage of the following applications and toolboxes. Individual units or researchers may require additional applications or toolboxes; please contact the respective unit contact to confirm or arrange availability of MathWorks software outside of this list.

Student Version

MathWorks has a student version that includes MATLAB, Simulink, and 10 toolboxes. It is available for purchase at the Campus Computer Store. For more information see the MathWorks website.

Cost

In calendar 2013 TAH is available at no cost to individual faculty and academic staff through a campus cooperative. Individual colleges, schools, and units contributed to the cooperative based on their share of TAH product purchases in 2010, 2011, and 2012. TAH will be evaluated for continued use in 2014 by units funding the program. A cost recovery model will be developed if TAH is renewed.
