MATLAB

Licensing

License Period

MATLAB is leased on a Fiscal Year basis (September 1 through August 31 of the following year). License costs are not pro-rated. The license cost remains the same regardless of when you join the program.

You must renew your license in the program each fiscal year (paying the applicable renewal costs) if you wish to continue using the software. Renewal forms are automatically sent to current program participants each year.

Licensing Details

For systems that are running firewalls, it is the responsibility of the customer, not ITS, to ensure that appropriate exclusions have been made to contact the license server.

MATLAB is licensed on a per-seat basis. Licenses leased through this program allow you to reserve a set number of concurrent seats for use from one or more computers (by hostname) running MATLAB software. These should be computers to which you can control login access. Computers must be connected to the network using TCP/IP and systems running firewalls must be configured to access the license server.

To use this option you will need to provide the hostname for your computer(s) as determined by the following:

  • Windows – run the hostname command from the command prompt
  • UNIX, Linux, and Mac OS X – run the uname –n command.

Note: This distribution of MATLAB requires the ability to connect to an ITS License Server each time the program is run.

Updates and Upgrades

Licensees will be notified when ITS receives upgrades from The MathWorks, Inc.
