Purchasing
UT Austin - For use on departmentally-owned machines
Departments can purchase one or more licenses for Red Hat Enterprise Linux directly from Red Hat. Currently (as of October 2006), licensing is available for $30/workstation (RHEL WS) and $60/server (RHEL AS). Departments can purchase or download installation media directly from Red Hat. UT Austin plans to add licensing for personally-owned machines in the future but as yet no implementation date has been determined. In the interim free Linux software is available through the Fedora Program.
UT System schools and other qualified institutions
Because this is an offering from Red Hat, not a special deal established by the University, any qualified educational institution can participate. Departments at educational institutions can purchase Red Hat Enterprise Linux WS and AS directly from Red Hat. Individuals who would like to use Red Hat Enterprise Linux on personally-owned machines will need to check with their institution to see if they have paid the necessary fees to cover institutional users for home use.
