The University of Texas at Austin

Microsoft Academic Select 6.0 Program

Overview

The University of Texas System has signed a Microsoft Academic Select volume purchasing agreement with Microsoft, Inc. Under this agreement, departments are able to purchase Microsoft software products at greatly reduced prices.

We strongly urge you to read the information on this Web page in its entirety before purchasing licenses under the Select program. Important information is presented here, including license documentation requirements.

After reading and understanding the information presented here, you will be able to make appropriate purchase decisions and can go straight to the product pricing pages. Please take the time necessary to become knowledgeable about the program. Further clarification of items described in this page may be found under the Help tab.

Available products

A wide variety of desktop and server products are available through the Select Agreement. Specific product availability is subject to change at Microsoft's discretion. A full listing of available products can be obtained from the Large Account Reseller designated for the Select Agreement. Please see How to Buy below for information on obtaining pricing.

Products that are NOT available

  • Products that are covered under the Microsoft Campus Agreement (site license) are actually available under Select, but should NOT be purchased as licensing is already in place.
  • Windows XP NEW desktop licenses are NOT available through any Microsoft volume licensing program. They can only be purchased as a Fully Packaged Product (FPP) through a retail outlet OR installed on a new computer through an Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) such as Dell, HP, Sony, etc.

Cost and Eligibility

The Microsoft Academic Select 6.0 Agreement ("Select Program") is available to departments within the University of Texas System. It is not open to faculty, staff or students of the University for personal purchases; however, there are special work-related provisions for home use.

Faculty and staff should review the Microsoft Campus Agreement information about products available to faculty and staff under that agreement.

System Requirements

Requirements vary by product. Please refer to the Microsoft Web site for detailed information.
