CYBER SECURITY AWARENESS MONTH 2007

“You can’t be my friend.”

I love using MySpace and Facebook to meet new people. I know it’s important to be careful about what I post online though. Choosing my friends means sometimes I just ignore strange messages and delete them. A guy sent me a message saying I was cute and wanted me to post my picture. Another person even asked for my address so they could send me a birthday card. I wasn’t interested anyway, but I have a rule not to post photos or give out my personal information to strangers.

Once I received some harassing messages from someone I didn’t know. I was really glad I hadn’t posted my picture or put out enough information so that they could find me. Being stalked really scares me.

I’ve just learned that some social networking sites are changing their privacy policies. I want to control who accesses my information, so I am going to be sure to restrict who can see me online.
