Capitalization
- Limit capitalization within a text to proper nouns. It is not necessary to capitalize a word just because it has a name or meaning within the system you are using. Refer to the Microsoft Manual of Style for capitalization rules on interface elements.
- For headings and titles:
- Capitalize the first and last word.
- Do not capitalize articles (a, an, the) unless they are the first word in the title or heading.
- Do not capitalize prepositions of four or fewer letters, unless the preposition is part of a verb phrase.
The University of Texas at Austin Writer's Style Guide provides additional guidance on capitalization of items that are specific to the academic setting.
