Some Windows computers are unable to browse the Web when connected to the campus wireless network

The ITS Help Desk has received several calls from Windows XP and Windows Vista users who have established a network connection, but are unable to view Web sites.  Other internet applications appear to work properly. The problem has been observed in the following browsers, Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Opera.

The ITS Help Desk has determined that this problem results from your anti-virus software not recognizing a change made by a critical update in Windows.

To resolve the problem, we recommend you uninstall your current anti-virus software and install the latest version of your anti-virus software of choice.

Do not uninstall any Windows updates or disable automatic updates as a means of resolving this problem.  Critical updates and automatic updates protect against serious vulnerabilities and help to protect your computer against viruses, spyware, and hackers.

If you need assistance with this problem or the information above, please contact the ITS Help Desk
