E-Mail Phishing Scam Being Reported
The ITS Help Desk regularly receives reports of e-mails requesting information about EID passwords and utexas e-mail accounts. If you have received such an e-mail regarding your EID or utexas e-mail account that requests your username and password, this is a phishing scam. Do NOT respond to the e-mail or provide any identifying information. Delete the message without clicking any links in the e-mail or responding to the e-mail in any way. Remember, the university and ITS will never ask for your password.
Phishing is a 21st century crime in which criminals attempt to steal personal information through seemingly official e-mail messages. An example phishing e-mail appears below. If you have any concerns about whether an e-mail is valid, contact the ITS Help Desk. Do NOT respond to questionable e-mail inquiries, especially those that request a password.
