Backing up Individual Files

If you need a file backed up on demand, you can make copies manually. This method works well for frequently modified files, such as papers and projects, to ensure that you do not lose the most updated version of a file.

To back up specific files or folders onto an external hard drive or flash drive:

  1. Select the file(s) or folder(s).
  2. From the toolbar, select Edit, then select Copy.
  3. Open a directory for your external device.
    • In Windows, access your external device through My Computer.
    • In Mac OS X, access your external device through Finder.
  4. From the toolbar, select Edit, then select Paste.

Other methods for backing up specific files:

  • You can attach smaller files to e-mails and send them to yourself.
  • You can upload files to online storage such as WebSpace and Austin Disk.
  • You can burn files to a CD or DVD.
