Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)

Connecting to the wireless Internet on 'restricted.utexas.edu'

This procedure connects Mac OS 10.5 Leopard computers to the restricted.utexas.edu wireless network. You will use your UT EID and password to log in.

Caution: Follow these instructions carefully. Using this wireless network when your computer is not properly configured can expose your personal data. In particular, you could be vulnerable to connecting to a fake access point, exposing your personal data. This is called a “man-in-the-middle” attack. Your computer will be properly configured if you follow our instructions.

Time to complete the procedure: 5 minutes.

  1. From the Desktop menu bar, select the AirPort icon then select Open Network Preferences.
  2. Select the AirPort icon from the left panel and make sure the AirPort is turned on.  If Status is Off, then click Turn AirPort On.
  3. Click Advanced, select the 802.1x tab and change the Domain to User.
    Note:  If you are unable to change the Domain, click Disable 802.1x Login.
  4. Click “+” to create a new profile and label the profile restricted.utexas.edu. Fill out the configuration as follows:

    User Name: Your UT EID
    Password: Your UT EID password
    Wireless Network: restricted.utexas.edu
    Authentication: TTLS (clear all other protocol options)
  5. Highlight TTLS and click Configure.  Select MSCHAPv2, for Outer Identity enter anonymous. Click OK twice.
  6. At the Network window, for Network Name select restricted.utexas.edu.
  7. You will be prompted to enter a user name and password.  Use your UT EID credentials for the user name and password, check Remember this network, and click OK.
  8. Your computer will now attempt to connect to the network.  Once it connects for the first time, a window labeled Verify Certificate will pop-up.  At this window click Show Certificate, check Always trust “restricted.utexas.edu,” and click Continue.
  9. At the Network window, click Apply, and close the window.

Note:   If your computer is unable to reconnect to restricted after it has been restarted, put in Sleep mode, or connected to another network, from the Desktop menu bar select the AirPort icon and toggle the AirPort off and then on.
