Overview
Information Technology Services (ITS) makes a number of training resources available to students, faculty, and staff. In addition to self-paced materials, ITS has developed courses for users of our services, as well as for technical staff to advance their skills.
If you have questions about our training or want to request custom training on an ITS service, please send e-mail to the ITS Training Team.
Programs
ITS offers two major training programs to campus:
- The Information Analyst Training Program provides on-the-job training in programming, focused on the university's development environment.
- SANS Training sponsors qualified university staff to complete an intensive program in computer security.
Other Educational Opportunities
Coordinated through the Analyst Training Program, weekly FYI Sessions offer campus developers at all levels an opportunity to learn what is going on with services and technology on campus. Although primarily focused on developers who work with the administrative systems and UT Direct in some way, Web developers and programmers who interact with central systems will also find sessions of interest. Sessions are announced weekly on the IT-Updates mailing list.
The state of Texas offers numerous resources for training, sometimes at low or no cost to state employees. Please consult their Web sites for details.
- Texas Department of Information Resources (DIR) Training
- Texas DIR Mailing Lists/Resources
- State Auditor's Office Training
- CONSEC
- Texas Regional Infrastructure Security Conference (TRISC)
- Texas Association of State Systems for Computing and Communications (TASSCC)
Cost
Training is generally offered at no additional cost to faculty and staff. (Special offerings may include costs specific to that offering.)
