Setting up a Desktop E-mail Program - Mail (OS X 10.6 Mail)
Configuring and Securing OS X Mail
- Open OS X Mail.
- From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
- Select the Accounts icon.
- In the bottom left corner, click the + option to create a new account.
- From the Add Account screen, enter the following information:
- In the Full Name field, enter your name.
- In the Email Address field, enter your UMBS e-mail address.
- In the Password field, enter your UMBS password.
- Click Continue.
- From the Incoming Mail Server screen, enter the following information:
- Select the Account Type from the drop-down list. Choose either IMAP or POP depending on how you want to define your account.
- Enter a description for your account in the Description field.
- Enter mail.utexas.edu in the Incoming Mail Server field.
- The User Name and Password are already filled out.
- Click Continue.
- From the Outgoing Mail Server screen, enter the following information:
- Enter a description for your account in the Description field.
- Enter mail.utexas.edu in the Outgoing Mail Server field.
- Check Use Authentication.
- The User Name and Password are already filled out.
- From the Account Summary screen, click Create.
- Close the Accounts dialog box.
NOTE: Send a test e-mail from another account to your UMBS e-mail account to make sure everything works.
