Setting up a Desktop E-mail Program - Mail (OS X 10.6 Mail)

Configuring and Securing OS X Mail

  1. Open OS X Mail.
  2. From the Mail menu, select Preferences.
  3. Select the Accounts icon.
  4. In the bottom left corner, click the + option to create a new account.
  5. From the Add Account screen, enter the following information:
    • In the Full Name field, enter your name.
    • In the Email Address field, enter your UMBS e-mail address.
    • In the Password field, enter your UMBS password.
  6. Click Continue.
  7. From the Incoming Mail Server screen, enter the following information:
    • Select the Account Type from the drop-down list. Choose either IMAP or POP depending on how you want to define your account.
    • Enter a description for your account in the Description field.
    • Enter mail.utexas.edu in the Incoming Mail Server field.
    • The User Name and Password are already filled out.
  8. Click Continue.
  9. From the Outgoing Mail Server screen, enter the following information:
    • Enter a description for your account in the Description field.
    • Enter mail.utexas.edu in the Outgoing Mail Server field.
    • Check Use Authentication.
    • The User Name and Password are already filled out.
  10. From the Account Summary screen, click Create.
  11. Close the Accounts dialog box.

    NOTE: Send a test e-mail from another account to your UMBS e-mail account to make sure everything works.
