UMBS E-mail Security Settings

Norton AntiVirus (NAV)

Macintosh

Make sure you are using the latest version for the operating system. The latest versions are available on BevoWare. Select the appropriate OS.

  • NAV 10 for OS X is compatible with Tiger (Mac OS X 10.4). Do not use earlier versions of NAV with Tiger.
  • NAV 9 is appropriate for OS X 10.3.9 and earlier. If NAV 10 is used with pre-Tiger clients, it may cause e-mail client crashes and encrypted e-mail blocking.

Symantec Client Security (SCS)

The Privacy Control feature has the side effect of completely blocking SSL e-mail. It is safe to turn off, and will not affect the firewall parts of your Symantec Client Firewall.

  1. Open the firewall control panel by double-clicking the firewall icon on the taskbar near the time.

  2. Select Privacy control and click the Turn Off button on the right to disable that feature.

Privacy Control is a feature that has to be extensively set up by the user to be useful. It prevents users from submitting certain information (which you have to specify--like bank codes, e-mail addresses, what not) into non-encrypted web forms.

Symantec Client Security (SCS) firewall

If you are receiving warnings from the SCS firewall and it is preventing secure connections, please uninstall the SCS product, then download the very latest version from BevoWare and reinstall.

Outlook XP and 2003

Windows

Make sure you have the latest service pack for the version of Microsoft Office that you are running.

Entourage 10.x

Macintosh

Upgrade to the current version of Entourage. Version 10.x and earlier do not support the UMBS e-mail security settings.

Outlook, Outlook Express

Windows

Passwords for sending e-mail could be incorrect if you have selected the "Log on using" option instead of Use same settings as my incoming mail server.

Upgrade to the latest version for the operating system. The appropriate versions are available on BevoWare.

Using more than one mail server (for example, if you are receiving through the Engineering mail server but sending through the UMBS e-mail server.) Each server requires separate credentials. You must create a separate "personality" with the appropriate login information.

  1. Create a separate personality for each mail server, using the appropriate credentials.

  2. From the Tools menu, select Options.

  3. Select the Sending Mail category from the list on the left.

  4. Select the UMBS e-mail personality for the SMTP Mail Relay.

Using a single mail server. Make sure your password is current.

  1. From the Special menu, select Change Password.

  2. Enter the correct UMBS e-mail password and click OK.
