Patching Outlook 2007
Make sure that you have the latest service pack for patching your version of Outlook. This procedure will not work if you do not have a fully patched system.
NOTE: You must use Internet Explorer for this procedure.
- Go to the Office Update site.
- Click the Check for Updates button.
- Install the updates as prompted.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation process.
Configuring Outlook 2007 for On-Campus Use
- Open Outlook.
- From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
- Under the E-mail tab, select New.
- Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP and click Next.
- Enter your name in the Your Name field.
- Enter your UMBS e-mail address (username@mail.utexas.edu) in the E-mail address field.
- Enter your password in the Password and Retype Password fields.
- Click Finish.
Configuring Outlook 2007 for Off-Campus Use
- Open Outlook.
- From the Tools menu, select Account Settings.
- Under the E-mail tab, select New....
- Select Microsoft Exchange, POP3, IMAP, or HTTP and click Next.
- Check Manually configure server settings or additional server types and click Next.
- Select Internet E-mail and click Next.
- In the Internet E-mail Settings window, enter your information in the following fields:
- Enter your name in the Your Name field.
- Enter your UMBS e-mail address (username@mail.utexas.edu) in the E-mail address field.
- Select POP3 or IMAP in the Account Type field.
- Enter "mail.utexas.edu" in the Incoming mail server field.
- Enter "mail.utexas.edu" in the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) field.
- Enter your UMBS e-mail user name in the User Name field.
- Enter your password in the Password field.
- Confirm that Logon using secure password authentication is not selected.
- Click More Settings.
- In the Internet E-mail Settings window, select the Outgoing Servers tab.
- Make sure that My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication is checked.
- Make sure that Use same settings as my incoming mail server is checked.
Caution: For UMBS e-mail do not use the Log on using option because your password could get out of sync and that would prevent you from sending e-mail.
- Select the Advanced tab.
- Check This server requires an encrypted [or secure] connection (SSL). The port number will change to 995, which is okay.
- In the Outgoing Server (SMTP) field, enter 587.
- Under Outgoing server, select TLS from the drop-down labeled Use the following type of encrypted connection.
- Click OK to close the window.
- In the E-Mail Accounts window, click Next, and then Finish.
- Close Outlook and restart it for your selections to take effect.
